At the Healthy Schools Awards on 13th July, Counsellor Joan Atkinson (Deputy Leader at South Tyneside Council), said: ‘Laygate Community School staff shine at modelling healthy lifestyles for their students, promoting positive relationships and meaningful interactions. You can now enrol your child in a free holiday club programme over the summer holidays. There are free places available for children and young people in South Tyneside who are eligible for benefits related free school meals or from a family experiencing hardship, where they can enjoy a variety of creative and physical activities, alongside a nutritious meal every day. Sessions include sports, arts, crafts and more!
All events are subject to availability and booking is essential. Activities and food are funded by the Department for Education.

Year 3 have been learning all about animation and multimedia in computing. The children planned a storyboard then created a backdrop and puppets for their animation. Finally, they used ‘onion skinning’ to create an animation using the Stikbot Studio app. The children finished their animation using iMovie to add a title and accompanying music.
