We’ve Achieved the Healthy Schools Award!

At the Healthy Schools Awards on 13th July, Counsellor Joan Atkinson (Deputy Leader at South Tyneside Council), said: ‘Laygate Community School staff shine at modelling healthy lifestyles for their students, promoting positive relationships and meaningful interactions. There is an environment of mutual respect evident between teachers and pupils, and children feel safe and confident to raise any issues.’

 

 

Disney’s 10 Minute Shake Up Campaign

Today Better Health and Disney’s 10 Minute Shake Up campaign launches and will help get kids active throughout the holidays. Using some of their favourite characters from Disney’s Encanto and Frozen, Disney and Pixar’s Lightyear and Marvel’s The Avengers, they will be inspired to be more active whilst having fun throughout the summer.

After the last 2 years we’re looking forward to getting back to the things we love, including getting our kids moving, feeling good and having fun. Increasing activity, both at home and in school, has been shown to make kids feel better, help improve their performance at school, and develop important skills.
Through playing these games, kids will build skills and grow in confidence, and most importantly, have fun!

Take-home packs 

 

Take-home packs are available to order in a range of quantities directly from the Campaign Resource Centre. Each pack contains 12 Disney inspired games that require minimal equipment and planning and can be played in a range of settings.

 
Posters

 

You can now order a range of posters including A4 and A3 poster and an empty belly poster to help promote local events.

 
Digital and social resources

 

A range of web banners and digital screens are now available on the Campaign Resource Centre for download. A social media toolkit with ready to use images and copy is now also available.
Local Partner Activity Guide

 

An activity guide is available with all the information you need to run a 10 Minute Shake Up event, Within the activity guide is a selection of 12 different activity cards featuring some of kids favourite characters. The games are easy to use, require minimal equipment and can be played in a range of settings, including outdoors, with small and large groups of children.

 

 

 

Summer Holiday Activities and Food Programme

Monday 25 July – Friday 2 Sept (excluding weekends)

You can now enrol your child in a free holiday club programme over the summer holidays. There are free places available for children and young people in South Tyneside who are eligible for benefits related free school meals or from a family experiencing hardship, where they can enjoy a variety of creative and physical activities, alongside a nutritious meal every day.  Sessions include sports, arts, crafts and more!

All events are subject to availability and booking is essential. Activities and food are funded by the Department for Education.

Year 3 Computing-Stop Motion Animation

Year 3 have been learning all about animation and multimedia in computing. The children planned a storyboard then created a backdrop and puppets for their animation. Finally, they used ‘onion skinning’ to create an animation using the Stikbot Studio app. The children finished their animation using iMovie to add a title and accompanying music. Tyne and Wear Metro are excited to announce that their Take the Kids for Free offer has been extended permanently, making Metro travel even more affordable.
Up to three children aged 11 and under can travel anywhere on the Metro or Shields Ferry for free, if they are with a fare-paying adult.
