Winter Holiday Activity and Food Events

Saturday 21st December 2024 – Friday 3rd January 2025
We are working with South Tyneside Council to deliver the Winter Holiday, Activities and Food Programme! There will be free activities and nutritious meals for children and young people aged 5-16 years who are eligible for benefit related free school meals (FSM), as well as eligible FSM young people up to the age of 18 with SEND.
All events are subject to availability. HAF has a new booking system which will go live 4pm Monday 2 nd December via Plinth.
Activities and food are funded by the Department for Education.

 

The Key Community Bus

For those of you that have not heard of us, the community bus travels to 6 different locations each week for 1.5 hours at each stop. The bus offers the following and is available for ANYONE to use:
Low cost food and household items including fresh fruit and veg, bread, sanitary products, nappies and essentials, the list is endless.
Advice, support and signposting in our upper community space.
Free school uniform requests
Free winter coats on board
Free sure start vitamins for children 5yrs and under
This service is a great for anyone struggling with the cost of living and we support a variety of young people, families and the elderly.

Kids go free, all day, every day with Tyne and Wear Metro  

Tyne and Wear Metro continue to help make travel as affordable as possible for families with their Kids go free promise.

Up to three children aged 11 and under can travel on Metro or the Shields Ferry for free, when accompanied by a fare-paying adult.

We hope this offer will encourage families to explore new places and spend quality time together.

South Tyneside Lego League Festival- Y3D

This term, in computing, children have taken part in the MASTERPIECE  season of FIRST LEGO League. In teams the children imagined and innovated new ways to create and communicate art across the globe. The children use SPIKE Lego Education kits that encourage STEM learning through building and programming moving parts using coding in the app.

On Thursday 11th July, the children in year 3, visited The Word in South Shields to take part in the South Tyneside Lego League Festival where they had the opportunity to show off their moving Lego models and team posters. The children enjoyed making friends with children from other schools and see what they had been building in their school.

The children worked very hard on their models and team posters at school and the judges were impressed. They also answered the  judges questions very well and showed off their knowledge excellently. The teams won The team spirit award, The core values award,  The stick to it award and the Team poster award.
